New research brings new hopeThere are always new headlines about cancer. According to an update from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 72,048 males and 58,418 females will be diagnosed with cancer this year. There is a 67 per cent chance of surviving at least five years after diagnosis and, while mortality rates have declined, this year it is estimated 26,566 males and 20,314 females will die. There are risk factors we have control over and some we do not; however, researchers keep working on improving our knowledge and treatment options.
